It’s disappointing that even today we can’t expect one person to respect another person. It’s far too common to see insults or threats based on race, gender identity, religion, and even political persuasion. People demean others because of whatever stupid reason. There is never a good reason, and it’s always (in part) because of lack of maturity.
The military is especially thick with this kind of stupidity. I know. I was in the military once. I met a lot of racists, sexists, and homophobes in my short time there. Even if I weren’t a pacifist, I wouldn’t want to be in an organization that tolerated that.
Australia’s army, on the other hand, knows what’s up. Here’s what their Chief of Army has to say:
